THE RED STRING GIRL.
Most of you never believe it but I can see it. The Red String that tied a person to another. The red string of fate. I don’t know the reason for this but I can see them since I was born. At first I always wondering what is those red strings. There are times when I tried to cut it but it can’t be cut. Trust me, my first time was out of curiosity and then, how many times I tried to cut it with a scissor or a knife, it can never be cut.
I want to ask my father and mother about it but couldn’t have the right word to say it. The one who told me about it is my older brother. He said it’s the red string of fate but he doesn’t want to tell any further.
I found out about the Red String of Fate by myself when I saw two peoples with the same string. Both of them are holding hands and looked very happy when making eyes contact with each other. They are holding hands as if nothing else matters as long as they have each other. I also say two peoples that aren’t tied with the same string. They crumble. They always fight with each other and throwing harsh words to each other. So now, you know about my parents. Yes, the two people that aren’t tied with the same string are my parents.
I secretly heard from my brother that it was a forced marriage. Maybe that’s the reason he doesn’t want to tell me about the red strings. He knows that my parents aren’t tied with the same string. That is also the reason I’m always alone in this house. We are rich family but only by money and not happiness. Sometimes, I’ve wondering the reason for my existence since I’m not made out of love but the question remained unanswered. So, now also knows the reason of me trying to cut the strings. I wanted to cut my parents and tied them together with the same string but it can never happen. It will never happen. I can see the strings but I can never change it. What is the use of seeing it? It is just a useless gift.
Anyway, let us stop with the recalling of my old memories. Right now, I am a third year of middle school. I don’t have a boyfriend but I do have a fiancé. It was our parents’ decision. At first, I thought that I would end up like my parents but surprisingly, I shared the same string with my fiancé. I was very happy. ‘Was’ very happy.
When my fiancé found out about my eyes that able to see the red strings, my fiancé tells about it to our schoolmates. Then, everyone knows about my ability. Some thinks it was a joke, some thinks I’m weird, some thinks it’s a lie and some seeks me to search for the fated person. Soon, everyone in my middle school knows about my ability. At first, I was happy to be able to help others but guess happiness wasn’t by my side. Regrets and such happened. I don’t want to think about it anymore. All I know is they blame me for everything even if it isn’t my words.
After that, right after that… My fiancé told me to test out my ability. He said that if we are truly fated with each other, then no matter how many girlfriends or boyfriends we had, we will bounce back together. I was shocked to hear it. However, I had enough. I don’t care anymore. Happiness will never be by my side. I shrug it off, following his game and don’t care whatever happens in the future.
So anyway, now you have known all my entire history before reaching high school. It’s a pitiful story.
A story of a person who can see the red string of fate.
A person with a very useless ability.
“WOOF!” I heard a sound and quickly, I snapped out from my stupor. I looked beside me and saw my shiba-inu named Mao is staring at me as if he wanted me to do something for him. When I saw him run to the nearby window, I understand completely of what he is trying to say to me.
I closed my diary and remove my glasses before rubbing my eyes lightly. “Wait just a second, Mao. I’ll wash my face first and then, I’ll take you for a walk.”
“WOOF!” he barked as his tail is wagging in delight.
“Geez, Mao. Why do you want to walk in the middle of the snow anyway?” I whined as I dragged myself to wash my face and find suitable clothes to wear. When I’m done wearing layers of clothes, I reached my glasses from wear I placed it and wear it. Then, I searched for my brother down stair to say that I’m taking Mao for a walk but my brother isn’t anywhere around. Maybe he went out with his friends or in his vet.
For this winter break, I’m living with my brother or more correctly, my step-brother. You don’t even need to know the reason I have a step brother but I have always been with him since I was born so, I have never felt he is an outsider. For me, he is like my only family and I am very sure he feels the same way as me. Our mother maybe different but he is my one and only, 10 years older big brother. I am also planning to stay with him after I graduate from my middle school. I won’t be studying in rich school anymore. Instead, I will be going to a normal, nearby high school in this spring.
“Woof! Woof!” Mao barked again and rushed to the door leading to the outside from this house.
I could only smile for his behaviour and said, “Ittekimasu.” Then, I close the door and tried to enjoy the walk from all of the pressure of remembering the past.
