Author Note// It’s been long since I’ve started writing again… kinda have forgotten about the Bonds. Nevertheless, perhaps this story will make me feel of writing again<3 And I noticed something wrong about this story… xD this story have an emotionless feelings.
“Sorry that we have to end our date just like this…” Yamato apologized as he held an umbrella up to the cloudy sky where rain has poured down to the earth. The umbrella he held isn’t only for covering himself but also, a beautiful person that he treasures the most.
Mayu shook her head side by side. “It’s not your fault it’s raining today.” She replies with a soft smile, only for the person she loves the most. Slowly, she walks closer to Yamato to seeking his warmth from the cold rainy day. It’s already spring season after the freezing winter season. So, no wonder that rains always pours from the sky and soon, cherry blossom will bloom which she wanted to ask him that if time comes… Can both of them watch the cherry blossom together?
“Mayu, can I ask you something?” he asked softly as he lead closer to her to give share his warmth with her.
“What is it, Yamato?” she replied, wanting answers.
Yamato looked away with a small pink colour at his cheek and stopped his walking before answer, “Do you… want to watch the cherry blossom with me?”
With that that, Mayu smiled happily and hugged him tightly, “Yes. I want to watch the cherry blossom with you!” she agreed. This person… really knows what she is thinking right now but she doesn’t mind that. Let him be the only person that knows her the best than anyone else.
Surprised by the sudden hugging, he almost dropped the umbrella he held but if he did that, then Mayu would be soaked wet with the liquid, right? To prevent that, he held it strongly so that she wouldn’t catch any sickness or illness. Using his right hand that is free from holding anything, he returned the hug willingly, patting her back and her soft silky brown hair. “Mayu…” he whispered her name, making her gazed upon him. Then slowly, he moved his lips closer to her forehead, touching it softly before moving to her lips to a chaste kiss. “I love you, Mayu.” He whispered when their lips has departure.
Smiling to the sincere of her heart, “I love you too, Yamato.” She replies and hugged him once more. At that time, only god knows how happy both of them are. It’s like they are having a glimpse of heaven and wished that the time will stop so that they don’t need to separate with each other again. However, that was just a mere dream that will never come true. Soon, they began to walk side by side, hands in hands till they reached Mayu’s home.
Before they bid ‘see you again’, Mayu placed returned the kiss for Yamato before blushing and running toward the door in front of her. “It’s a promise seeing the cherry blossom together, right?” she asked shyly, hiding herself behind a door. With a reply of a nod from him, she smiled again. “Thanks for the date today. I had so much fun with you, Yamato and be very careful on your way home. See you.” She closed the door right after Yamato nodded once again.
“I’m home!” Mayu speak up as she took out her shoe in haste and runs to her room, toward a window to open it quickly because when she open it, the person she love is still in front of her house, waiting for her to see him off.
As he thought, she is up there to see him off like she used to. “See you again, Mayu!” he speaks up before turns away from her which is a hard thing for him to do. Only for a few steps forward, he looked back again and smiled to see the most precious and beautiful person he loved is waving her hand cutely. Then, he turns away again, knowing that she is safe and protected inside the house with peoples that also treasured her as their precious daughter. When he was about to disappear from her sight, he whispered something sadly before completely vanish from her sight.
‘The time of us to see each other… almost reached to an end… ’ is his last words.

Since that night, both of them never meet with each other again. However, she always texted him and he always calls her and they talked through the devices for such a long time. ‘I’m busy…’ is what Yamato always said and sometimes, the same goes for Mayu because the school is going to start soon. They actually on a one week holiday, so they can’t see each other for a week but for them were like a year being separated with each other. When the one week holiday is over, Yamato still hasn’t went to school till the promised time which is on the Cherry Blossom View Day where the pink petals will finally falls to the ground signing that spring almost come to an end; the perfect time to fulfil their promise with each other.
“Mayu-nee, are you looking for someone?” Aria asked, concerned about her senior because since both of them arrived at their school, Mayu’s sparkling eyes rolled every side like she was searching for someone and that person still isn’t showing himself/herself to her.
The senior shrugged and sighed. “I’m looking for ‘him’.” She answered shortly. Usually, she always blushed when she said Yamato’s name in front of her junior but since both of them already used to hearing his name, she didn’t feel shy anymore. Plus, Aria is her most trusted junior and is like a little sister to her. So, what could happen between them?
Out of blue, Aria looked confused and speaks up what in her mind said. “Him?”
“Him… You know… Yamato. We only managed to talk through phone. I really missed him.” She explained as her eyes still looking around searching for the male student.
Hearing what Mayu just said, made Aria confused but then, a teasing smile curved at her lips. “Yamato? Who is this Yamato person that you missed?” she giggled. “I didn’t know you have a boyfriend, Mayu-nee. You should introduce my brother-in-law to me, someday.”
Mayu blinked. “Didn’t you see him already? Last winter?” she confessed which successfully made the teasing smile disappeared into a nervous laugh.
“Are you trying to joke around with me? I never heard of this ‘Yamato’ person.” Aria answered sarcastically which also successful to made Mayu confused. She knows by the sound of Aria’s tone, she isn’t bluffing but she did meet Yamato last winter in Christmas Eve where the three of them gone out shopping together and Aria made him carries all her bags. The memories still fresh in her mind since it is a precious and treasured memory for Mayu.
Before Mayu could reply Aria’s words, she suddenly was tackled hug by Harumi behind her with Namine trying to keeps up with Harumi’s hyper active mood. “Mai-mai~” Harumi utters childishly as Namine just shook her head along with Aqua who just appeared out of nowhere. “Let’s go to the book store after school! I heard there a new dvd; ‘Natusme Yuujinchou Shi’ is coming out this evening! Let’s be the first to buy it!” she suggested.
Mayu smiled softly at her friends and tried to figure a sentence. “Sorry, I have to pass. I’ve got a date with Yamato today.” Mayu rejected and apologized, also bowed as a sign of a thank you for the invitation but she has a promise to keep with her precious person. Today is the Cherry Blossom Viewing Day.
“Yamato? Who is that?” Namine asked, confused. Not only her but Aqua and Aria also looked confused to hear what Mayu just spoke while Harumi just looked away, thinking and remembering who is Yamato because she always had a hard time remembering peoples name.
Mayu shrugged again. “Yamato… The Yamato that always with me last year… How could you forgotten about him?”
“Mayu… we are not like Roxas and Harumi who always has short terms of memorizing. Just who is this ‘Yamato’? We never heard of him or saw him or even meet with someone named Yamato except today when you mentioned his name.” Aqua explained and everyone agreed with what she said except Harumi who is still thinking or trying to remember the person who never exists in their life.
At that time, Mayu is completely shocked and speechless. How could they not know him? She just speaks with him yesterday and it’s still fresh in her memories. Again, before Mayu could comment anything, Harumi interrupted her words once more.
“Ah! Takemoto Yamato, right? Who was in the same class as mine in last year, right?” Harumi said after finally able to recall her memories of the past. With that, Mayu smiled and glad that someone able to remember him. She felt relived till Harumi continued her sentences. “Takemoto died last year because of an accident… My sympathy because he didn’t even manage to went to our school on his first day of being a sophomore.”
Mayu shocked. Completely shocked after listening what Harumi just said. Her hands began to shivering and her mind filled with thoughts of what is happening here? Why Aria and the others don’t know about Yamato? It’s like…he never existed in their life last year… Oh, god… what is happening? Mayu confused while Namine, Aqua, Namine and Aria walked away from Mayu, thinking why Mayu acted weirdly today? Is it because she is tired? Maybe she need some time alone and that is what they will give her as they left Mayu alone, filling her head with her most precious and beloved person.
After thinking awhile, Mayu suddenly began to sobbing as if she will cry soon as tears already gather around her beautiful eyes that turns cloudy because of the liquid. Then, suddenly… she snapped from her stupor and looked above to a Cherry Blossom tree. There, she saw a very familiar hand waving at her and then, lend his hand for her to climb over the tree and escaped from school today.
When Mayu reached Yamato’s hand, she realized that his hand is very cold… is his hand always like this? However, in previous days, he is sure that his hands are very warm. So, there’s no way he is a ghost or something like that because right now, only for a few minutes his hands becomes warmer and warmer. Ghosts or spirits don’t have warmness unlike humans. So, she sure of it… very sure of it that what her friends said to her was only an April fool’s joke.
Right after Mayu reached at the other-side of the wall, Mayu hugged him tightly and when she released the hug and he has already return the hug, Yamato held her hand towards an unknown destination.

Once again, both Mayu and Yamato caught up in a glimpse of heaven. They walked around a nearby small town and have fun together. Yamato even brought some cute clothes for Mayu so that she doesn’t stand out much because of her school uniform while he wears his usual clothes; brown sweater and silver jeans. Both of them went into many places of the small town together; eating, playing, resting and many more only the two of them with cherry blossom petals as their witness.
In that time, Mayu and also, Yamato always smile to their sincere of their heart. None of them ever annoyed, argue or something like that. The only feelings they can feel are happiness, joy, warm, and for added for Yamato… sadness. Mayu caught Yamato stared at the sky. However, when he saw Mayu’s concern face, he just looked at her eyes and smiles gently at her. Then, he pulled Mayu to another scene of happiness.
After the sun finally falls and the moon comes up, Mayu and Yamato are still holding their hands together. When Mayu revealed her eyes, she saw her beloved person again with cherry blossom petals are falling to the ground and from a tree beneath them. She hugged his arm, seeking his warmness and whisper, “This is the happiest day in my life. Every day is a joy day with you by my side.” She smiled and continued, “Thanks for keeping the promise.”
Titled his head, Yamato laid his head on top of Mayu and planted a small kiss, smelling Mayu’s scent throught her beautiful hair. “There another thing I want to promise to you, Mayu.” He uttered softly and faced Mayu, front to front. “I will always stay by your side no matter what happen. So… ” Yamato touches Mayu’s lips. “Don’t ever lose that beautiful smile of yours.”
“I won’t…” Mayu reply and gazed upon his eyes. “As long as you are always by my side…” she uttered as Yamato showed his pinky finger which made her giggled. Then, she also showed her pinky finger and then, swore together.
“From now on, please took care of me, Yamato.”
She spoke with a smile and gain a smile in return.

It’s already midnight, yet their hands are still held on to each other. None of them want to be separated yet, and their hands are held tighter yet, gentle. Mayu’s head is rested on Yamato’s shoulder and both of them just watched the rare view in once a year where cherry blossoms are falling to the earth in the middle of the night with a beautiful full moon and stars decorated in the dark-blue sky.
“Yamato… I wish the time will stop right now.” she wished and he nodded of agreement. Slowly, Yamato took a little closer to Mayu to seal her lips once more till a sudden phone call. “Ah! So-Sorry!” she panicked when just register what Yamato was about to do. She finds it very embarrassing and doesn’t dislike it at all. However, before they continued, she should probably answer the call especially because the call is from her mother.
‘Mayu! Where are you? It’s late! You should return home now.’ angered her mother.
“So-sorry mom… I was with Yamato. I’ll return home soon.” She replied and then, there is a sudden silent.
Nevertheless, for a few seconds later, her mother reply, ‘Mayu… Didn’t I tell you not to talk to strangers? Quickly come home! Don’t trust that person you just meet!’
“Stranger?” Mayu confused. “Who is the stranger?” she asked.
‘Mayu! Just return home! Or I’ll be worry about you!’
“B-but I’m with Yamato. Why should mom be worrying?”
‘That Yamato… You just meet him, so don’t trust him much.’
“Just meet Yamato?” a question mark appeared. “Mom, what are you talking about? You’ve meet Yamato for countless time. Plus… mom also has given us permission.”
‘Permission? Mayu… sorry my dear but… who is Yamato? Sorry but mom can’t can’t really recall your friend’s name. This is my first time heard ‘Yamato’.’ Her mother apologized.
After hearing what her mother said, Mayu began to recall what happen this morning. All her friends said they doesn’t know anything about Yamato; her very beloved person that has been with her since last year. Even Harumi said… he died last year… when they just meet? What is the meaning of this? “Mom, sorry to make you worry… I’ll return home soon.” She uttered to her mother before cuts the line of the phone call. Then, she turns around to see Yamato’s face.
Yamato just titled his head with a smile, “What is it, Mayu?” he asked but Mayu didn’t reply anything. She just stared at him and suddenly, she cried. Yamato panicked and quickly stood up. “Mayu! What’s wrong?! Why are you crying?” he asked and definitely, he really doesn’t like seeing Mayu cries.
“Ya-Yamato. E-everyone said they don’t know anything about you even m-my mom doesn’t know.” She cried and continues to speak up what’s in her mind. “E-even Harumi s-said you… you died last year… I-I’m confused. Why did they do this to me? You are here… Right here beside me… always beside me. You guys already talked with each other, right? So, how come none can remember anything about you? I-is there something… something wrong with them?” she sobbed, trying to hold her tears but unable to.
Yamato looked down and hugged Mayu tightly. “Mayu…” he whispered her name.
Mayu hoped that this is just a dream. What her friends said was just a dream! O-or an April fool’s game thought it’s not 1st April anymore. “This is just a tease from them, right?” she asked; wanting… really want Yamato to agree with what she said.
“Mayu…” he whispered again her name. “I’m sorry…”
With that, her eyes become wide and the warm hug from his is released gently. Yamato isn’t wearing a sincere smile to her anymore. It’s a fake smile hiding his sadness. “There’s something I should have told you a long time ago…” He began to speak up with an anxiety face as he brushes his arms. “I know this sounded a fiction to you but hear me out… and believe that this is the truth.” Yamato took a deep breath before he started his story. When he’s done calming his mind and heart, he began to explain. “It all began last year before I’ve become a sophomore…”
“I was on my way to school… there… when I was crossing the street… I saw a woman who ruined my parent’s relationship that almost makes my mom and dad going divorce.” Yamato’s hands shivered when remember the fights between his parents that he can’t do anything about it; only managed to close his ears for years. “But thank god that they manage to fix up the problems. I hate that woman very much because she did it all for money and she almost killed my mom because my parent relationship is fixed but she got caught red-handed by dad.” He explained the hatred to the woman before going to the main point.
“At that time… when I was crossing the street… I saw a car that runs straight to that woman, ignoring the fact that my distance with that woman is pretty close because I want to pass through her as fast as I can. I saw that car coming and I was about to dodge it… but that… woman didn’t…” he stopped talking and looked away as if he ashamed of himself. “So… I… pulled that woman away from getting hit.”
Mayu blinked when hearing what Yamato said. She quickly hugged Yamato and her tears are gathering as she knows what happen next and she really afraid of hearing it.
“That woman saved… however… I got hit by that car.” Yamato said which has made Mayu cried. He patted her head and looked up to the sky that decorated with pink petals. “Before my consciousness faded away… Peoples nearby are watching me… even that woman. They all looked at me with sympathy faces and then… this is the part that hardest to believe… I saw a guy looking at me with a mysterious smile.”
---FLASHBACK---
‘Why is he smiling like that?’ Yamato asked in his mind.
“It’s because I’m surprised by your actions, little boy.” The guy suddenly answered. Weirdly, all the peoples around him are chattering with each other but he can only hear one voice, clearly from others.
‘Still… there’s nothing to be smiling for. My family already together again after years, they finally overcome the problems… The happiness that I always wanted is reachable yet… because of that woman again…’ he began cries. ‘I… unable to feel a real warmth of happiness and joy of love.’
The mysterious guy looked at Yamato with a weird face and smile. It’s like he understands the feeling of loneliness. “I can help you with that but I rather take you to ------- than giving you a wish.”
‘A wish?’ Yamato uttered with full of hopes.
“… It is not a wise decision to choose a wish over that place but if you want… I shall grant you one wish as an exchange of coming to that place.” The guys explained again but Yamato ignore the first choice. He really wants to choose the second choice which is… makes a final wish. “Alright then, seems like you’ve already made a decision. I shall grant you your wish but remember… If that wish already come true… You have to return to where you come from… at the other side… ” Said the guy with a small sigh and smiled, looking at Yamato closely. “Tell me your wish, Takemoto Yamato.”
When Yamato utters his last wish, the guy smiled and whispered something. “I shall grant you, your wish…”
‘Thank you…’
“And I’ll give you an extra present for saving that woman who you hated the most.”
---END FLASHBACK---
“I’m guessing that present of his is… you, Mayu.” Yamato smiled and stroked Mayu’s soft silky hair. “Then, when I woke up… I was on the street, unharmed. There’s no accident happen on that day. So, after that… after a year… I finally know how it feels to being loved by my family and also… A love from a person I loved the most.” He hugged Mayu tightly and hushed her to stop crying for him.
Mayu sobbed and looked at Yamato’s face, unable to express what’s her feeling is after hearing such a magical and fantasy story from him. “I… I can’t… I can’t believe it…” Mayu said, finally able to speak up after a long silent between them.
Yamato looked down, knowing this story of his… is really a hard to believe one but he really want Mayu to believe the fiction before he disappeared from this world. “Please, Mayu… trust me that I speak of the truth.” He said and backed away. Really, if he knows it will end up hurting his precious peoples like this… he shouldn’t have wished the wish because he thought, after this... everyone’s memories of him will be erased but why her memories isn’t erased like others? Is it a punishment for making that wish?
Suddenly, Mayu hugged him tightly and tears flows from her eyes as she yelled loudly and clear, “Yamato! I trust you. With all my heart, I trust you… but… I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! I can’t believe the fact that… I can no longer able see you again…” she cried loudly. “You promised me to always stay by my side…”
Yamato smiled sadly and placed his hands on Mayu’s chin to make her looked at his eyes. “I will always stay by your side… watching you. Always even you didn’t notice it.” He uttered softly and kissed her forehead. “Always.”
“Yamato…” she whispered his name before noticed Yamato’s hand, leg, and every part of him even his face is fading away. “No… NO! YAMATO! Don’t LEAVE ME!” she yelled loudly from the bottom of her heart.
Suddenly, a tear also falling from Yamato’s eyes but he kept his face with a smile till the very end. “I’m glad that I was able to meet such a beautiful person like you, Mayu.” He mumbled before saying his last words. “Mayu… I love you and thank you… for loving me back.”
With that, Yamato turns into a dusty fragment. His warmness slowly disappeared from Mayu and slowly, she only can feel cold and emptiness. “Yamato… Why?” she fell on her knee and cried loudly with memories of her meeting with him merged in her mind.
The memories where they throw glares to each other,
The memories where they began to believe each other,
The memories where they confess their feeling with each other,
And the memories of their togetherness in one whole year.
Remembering all of them… and knowing the fact that they will never meet with each other again… fears her the most.

A few days has passed. Mayu is still the same as before, unable to smile like they promised with each other. She wanted to smile but she just… couldn’t even thought ‘Yamato’ never exist anymore. She sure that nobody able to recall and sure that the rumours that there’s an accident last year is also true. He died at that time… She should also forget about him. That’s the best and the right choice but she just… couldn’t forget the person she loved the most. She just couldn’t.
Mayu shrugged and stopped her walking when the traffic light turned red. Then, Mayu just stared at the traffic light. This is the place where the accident occurred. This is where Yamato died. Maybe… Maybe she should follow him. Just pass the street, letting get killed. Yeah… that way, she can meet him, right?
However, suicide is wrong. She will never do it. She is afraid to do it…. afraid that this decision will end up not like she wanted to. So, she just ignores the thought of suicide. Yamato will be mad at her, right? If she killed herself but still… living in a world without him hurts more. “I want to be with him…” she wished in the bottom of her heart as she placed her hands on her chest, trying to make a wish on the evening after school.
Suddenly, she felt a weird aura. Mayu looked to her front and across the street, she saw a stranger passing by. When that guy looked at her without warning, Mayu surprised to see the guy is curving a weird and mysterious smile like what Yamato describe the guy who grants his wish. Unconsciously, Mayu stepped forward beyond the line where she should wait for the green light to appear. Then, a car…. A huge car is right next to her which soon… can cause her to have fatal injuries and also… death.
Mayu noticed that the car is running straight to her but she just closed her eyes as her legs aren’t moving at all. “Yamato…” she whispered before falling on the ground.

“-yu! -U! MAYU!”
Hearing a voice calling for her name, Mayu revealed her eyes and try her best to gain consciousness. She looked around hazily and saw someone in front of her; the person who is calling her name desperately. She blinked twice to figure who is the person because the way that person holds her is very familiar and she knows… really know who’s warmness it is. Finally, when she regains her consciousness completely, she hugged the person who holding her. “Yamato!” she called his name and hugged him tightly. “This must be heaven, right?” cried Mayu.
Suddenly, the person blinked and he looked kinda in panicked. That’s when Mayu noticed that they are still on the street with many peoples staring at the lovey-dovey scene. “Ma-Mayu…” he blushed and Mayu knows he really embarrassed when Mayu hugged him in front of the crowds however, there is a question that need to be answered.
Before Mayu could said anything, a guy that she saw before asked them to come with him silent and quietly. Mayu and Yamato looked at each other a nodded of agreement. While they are looking the mysterious guy, Mayu noticed that the person who just saved her life is really is… her beloved person named; Yamato. He is wearing patient’s clothes inside his long sweater and… Yamato… is in front him with his hand is holding her hand. She could even feel a little cold at his hands, perhaps afraid that she got hit by the car but his hand is slowly, turning warm like it used to once more.
Gomen. Yamato wished for a year to lived with happiness. And who could guess Yamato didn't die in that accident. He only had a coma for a year. He needed to re;start what he and Mayu did in that one year but... both of them are doing fine and happily ever after~
